The Lost Boys

After watching Let the Right One in, The Lost Boys is a completely different beast.

The Lost Boys takes place in a beach town in California where two brothers, Michael and Sam,  move because there parents get a divorce so they move with mom, Lucy who gets a job working at a video store under the head vampire Max. The boys quickly get settled into the new town and notice that it has had a bunch of missing people and crime recently. Michael spots a girl named Star, whos boyfriend is David the leader of the local vampire gang. Michael goes to the comic book store where he meets Edgar and Alan who are self proclaimed vampire hunters and are giving out comic books to spread awareness. Michael finally talks to Star and her boyfriend who convinces him to follow them to their headquarters, he obviously does so because he is fascinated with Star. On the way their he almost dies, when he gets to their hideout they try to initiate him be giving him wine (that is really blood) so that he will become a vampire too.

After everyone turns into a vampire or half vampire, the movie kicks off and the fights and gore begin with Michael trying to kill the head vampire in hopes of saving himself and Star from being vampires forever. After trial and error they finally kill the head vampire Max and return to normal.

I enjoy this film because it has this hip 80's California vibe to it. It is pretty different from the other vampire movies I have seen just because of the wardrobe choices, young adult gangs and beach town mood. Maybe I liked it because I am from the Bradenton/Sarasota area and can sort of relate to the setting. Overall, I enjoy the drama and horror this film offers and think it deserves a spot on the top vampire movie list if there is one.
